As a software engineer, you will work on a specific project critical to Google’s needs with opportunities to switch teams and projects as you and our fast-paced business grow and evolve. We need our engineers to be versatile, display leadership qualities and be enthusiastic to take on new problems across the full-stack as we continue to push technology forward.

Our team is growing to take on more challenges and features. The team is responsible for developing Android Media APIs, core libraries and reference applications. We work across all of Google to bring the best Media experience to each Android device (mobile, tablet, TV, auto and watch). This is an extremely impactful role where every decision you make and everything you build ultimately impacts the way 2 billion users experience Media consumption on Android.

Android has become the world's most popular mobile ecosystem, powering billions of devices, from smartphones to tablets, watches to TVs and everything in between. Whether adding to the core Android experience, forging new markets for digital content, creating immersive and portable versions of our products or managing relationships with a global community of developers, the Mobile team is giving you Google on the go.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve Android Media APIs to control media applications like YouTube, Play Movies, etc. with Android watch, Android Auto, Chromecast, etc.
• Manage individual project priorities, deadlines and deliverables.
• Monitor developers feedback and design better Media APIs

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

• BA/BS in Computer Science or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• Programming experience in C++ or Java.
• Experience with Android development and/or multimedia frameworks

Preferred qualifications:

• Large scale systems design experience.
• Domain knowledge or experience in one or more of the following: Android frameworks, audio processing, or video encoding/decoding
• Ability to speak and write English fluently and idiomatically.
